Workshop Subversion® 1.6 (26 mei)

05/07/2009

This workshop introduces new functionality in 1.6 before taking a look at enterprise deployments. In the morning, we will focus on new functionality arriving in Subversion® 1.6 and take a deeper dive into key parts of that functionality, in particular tree conflicts resolution as the defining feature for 1.6. We will explain the benefits of tree conflicts resolution, what exactly tree conflicts resolution is, and demonstrate how this functionality can ensure full traceability across your development and significantly improve the ease with which development teams can work in parallel.

The afternoon focuses on best practices on structuring a repository and data set, branching and merging strategies, and workspace management. The workshop will show how Subversion® best practices can be applied to successfully implement IBM Rational Unified Change Management (an industry SCM standard). In addition, we will cover how to organize for collaborating between organizations and across locations and how to address disaster recovery and business continuity. The day will wrap up outlining how to leverage the tremendous value of the open source community (as opposed to merely using the software).

Aim

Upon successful completion of this workshop, attendees shall have a good understanding of what is coming in Subversion® 1.6 in order to better plan on how to best utilize this functionality in their organizations. The workshop will also expose the attendees to broader concerns like deployment, utilization beyond code development, and realizing benefits beyond just Subversion® the tool.

Prerequisites

Attendees shall have a basic knowledge of Subversion® as well as a basic understanding of software engineering concepts.

Target audience

Senior developers, architects, team leads, and configuration managers.
